Prep enrolments for 2027

The Department of Education (DE) manages a statewide Prep enrolment timeline.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at all Victorian government primary schools, including Eltham East Primary School. Your child should turn five years of age by 30th April of their Prep year.

The timeline applies for children starting Prep in 2027. All government primary schools will follow this timeline in 2026 to support Prep enrolments for the 2027 school year.

You can find additional information and resources about the new timeline, including factsheets, at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Prep 2027 at Eltham East Primary School from Monday 20 April 2026.

What you need to do:

  1. Contact our school on 9439 9793 to book a school tour or to learn more about our school and the enrolment application process.

  2. Download the Prep enrolment information pack from the Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) website (2026 version now available).

  3. Download and complete either an application form for Foundation (Prep) for out-of-zone children, or an enrolment form for in-zone children

  4. Submit the application form or enrolment form by Friday 31 July 2026. You can bring the form to the school office or email Julianne Roberts (julianne.roberts@education.vic.gov.au), along with a birth certificate, proof of address and an up-to-date immunisation certificate.

  5. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August 2026 and Friday 14 August 2026. If you receive an offer of placement, you should contact our school to accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026.

  6. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 3 and 4, 2026.

  7. Your child will start Foundation (Prep) from Thursday 28 January 2027.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the Department’s Placement Policy.

Enrolment information

Eltham East Primary School is a well resourced high-performing school that offers a high quality education, in an environment committed to child safety, for all primary school aged children. Please make a time for a personalised tour of our school with our Principal, Mr Warren Lloyd by calling the office on 03 9439 9793.

Every year we have a high demand for places at our school and we always do our best to accommodate as many children and their families as possible. For Prep-Year 6 we are accepting children where we are your closest school. The Find My School website is a single source provided by DE to visually represent all school zones throughout Victoria and to make it easier to find your local neighbourhood school or other public school options.

Our school zone

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.

Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

Our school has an enrolment restriction under section 2.2.16 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). The restriction limits enrolments for the 2025 school year.

Our school will accept enrolments from:

  • students who live within the school zone

  • students with a sibling attending the school at the same time

  • students enrolling on compassionate grounds, in exceptional circumstances.

Depending on available places, our school may be able to accept a limited number of out-of-zone enrolments.

The department will review this enrolment restriction yearly and provide updated advice as necessary for the subsequent school year. Information for 2026 will be added when it becomes available.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.
