At Eltham East Primary School, we use an integrated approach to teaching in the learning areas of Science, Humanities, Health and Technologies, while embedding the four capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical, Intercultural, and Personal and Social. This approach ensures students develop the knowledge and skills outlined in the Victorian Curriculum Fâ10 2.0, establishing a strong foundation for lifelong learning, social development and active citizenship.
In Prep to Year 2, students participate in our Stepping Stones program, which intentionally builds social and emotional skills, fine and gross motor development, and foundational learning habits through purposeful, play-based and inquiry experiences.
In Years 1 and 2, students also explore Science, History and Geography through integrated units such as Then & Now, Living Things and Toys in Motion.
In Years 3â6, units of work are carefully planned and delivered in two-year cycles (3/4 and 5/6), ensuring consistent curriculum coverage across the school.
Alongside the major units studied each year, students also participate in mini-units that respond to class needs and interests, covering topics such as seasonal changes, major sporting events such as the Olympics, Bike Education, Road Safety, Fire Safety and Chess.
